Madrid Day 3

Experienced in the survival strategies of the breakfast buffet, we joined the whole group for a three hour bus tour of Madrid.  The local guide was articulate in English and comprehensive in explaining the meaning of every monument, fountain, and decoration that we passed.  It turned out to be a great overview of the city and since we had walked the city for several hours yesterday, it was a welcome change.

We spent a good part of,the afternoon at the Prado museum of art.  Neither of us has a background or academic instruction in art of any kind, but we were duly impressed with the magnificent paintings.  I am always thrilled to know I am looking at something that was created hundreds of years ago by another human being.

Our tour is composed of about forty other travelers from across the US, most of them have traveled with Grand Circle extensively.  Everyone is friendly, and we are just at the "getting to know you" stage.

One improvement since our last Grand Circle tour to South Africa, is the use of "whisperers". They are personal amplification devices that allow us to clearly hear the speaker without having to be right next to them.  They are comfortable and work great

We have a Welcome Dinner tonight, so perhaps we will have an opportunity to try some new foods.  I think today was the first day I have not eaten some type of fried potato.

Not sure why the photos on my phone are not available to add to this blog page, but I'll publish now and add the photos later if/when they become available.
